A foreign national from Singapore, identified by the initials MZ (26), has been arrested in Denpasar, Bali, for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, AS (26). A joint effort by the Bali Regional Police's Directorate of General Criminal Investigation, Denpasar Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, and Denpasar Selatan Police's Criminal Investigation Unit led to the arrest within approximately three hours after the investigation identified the suspect's characteristics. The victim, AS, was a woman from Tegal, Central Java, and was in a romantic relationship with the suspect MZ. The preliminary motive, based on interrogation, is stated as 'heartache due to the romantic relationship.' The suspect MZ had come to Bali for tourism and had been overstaying his visa for over a year since 2025. According to police, the suspect allegedly strangled the victim for approximately 15 minutes before attempting to flee towards Sanur. The victim's body was found in her rented room on Jalan Mekar II. The discovery was made by the victim's sister, RA, who went to check on her after being unable to reach her by phone. Upon arrival, RA noticed a strong foul odor emanating from the room. Upon entering, she found the victim's body, partially covered by a doll. RA reported seeing the suspect emerge from the room next door around the time of her arrival. When questioned about her sister's whereabouts, MZ did not respond. Suspicious, RA struck the suspect with her helmet, prompting him to flee on a motorcycle. Both the victim and RA worked at a billiard hall in Kuta, and RA last saw her sister about a week prior. RA mentioned that the victim had previously argued with her boyfriend twice due to his infidelity. Meanwhile, a friend of the suspect, DP, stated she had only been dating MZ for three days, having met him at the billiard hall where she works. She recounted staying overnight at MZ's rented room on Saturday (11/7), during which she noticed an unpleasant smell but did not inquire further. On Tuesday (14/7), when DP questioned MZ about the odor, he became angry and hit a wall, telling her, 'Why are you asking?' The manager of the rented room where AS resided confirmed that she had been living there with MZ since March 2025. The victim's body was found on the floor of the room, face up, covered with a toy doll and a neatly folded carpet. The body showed signs of decomposition and emitted a strong odor.
