Cambodia: Garment Factory Strike Ends with Labor-Management Agreement, Production Resumes

A labor dispute at the "Go Win Lighting (Cambodia) Co., Ltd." garment factory, located in Prey Thom village, Prey Thum commune, Kampong Roteh district, Svay Rieng province, has been resolved through an agreement between labor and management, following diligent mediation by skilled officials. As a result, workers returned to their normal duties on September 23, 2026. The incident saw 38 out of a total of 306 workers go on strike. The workers' demands were related to three issues: the language used by the translator, overtime work arrangements, and the acceptance of medical certificates for sick leave. Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, stated, "Through the mediation of the involved parties, the three issues have been resolved by mutual agreement, allowing workers and employers to continue their working relationship peacefully and with mutual understanding." He further added, "The resolution of labor disputes must be based on discussion, understanding, and mediation between both parties to find mutually acceptable solutions and ensure the legal rights and interests of both workers and employers. In this case, both parties have reached an agreement, and the workers will return to work as usual." Following the reconciliation, the workers pledged to return to work as normal on the morning of September 23, 2026. They participated in a peaceful resolution process and engaged in close discussions, which serves as a crucial foundation for maintaining a good working environment and ensuring smooth production, according to Mr. Sun Mesa.
