NLD Party Warns of Strict Action Against Those Who Instruct and Participate in the Destruction of General Aung San Statues

Yangon, July 8 The NLD Party announced today that it will continue to take strict action against those who instruct and participate in the destruction of General Aung San statues across Myanmar. The party issued a warning today, July 8, strongly protesting and condemning the daily destruction of public General Aung San statues across the country by the military and its collaborators, who take advantage of the darkness of night. "Those who instruct and participate in these acts are destroying public property, the national identity of Myanmar, the symbol of Myanmar's history, evidence, and the spirit of the Union, and therefore, strict action will continue to be taken," the NLD Party's statement said. According to the statement, General Aung San is the architect of independence who united the Union for Myanmar's independence, and he is also the father of the Myanmar military. Due to his great historical legacy, integrity, and selfless qualities, the public holds General Aung San's likeness as a symbol of national identity and Myanmar's history. The NLD Party, which emerged from the people, also stated that it has participated in the construction of General Aung San statues in accordance with procedures, with individual contributions from the public, in line with the people's wishes. Currently, the military junta and its collaborators, including the military, police, and municipal officials, are destroying General Aung San statues using the cover of night. The NLD Party pointed out that such destruction is not only the destruction of public property but also the intentional crushing of Myanmar's national identity, historical symbols, and the beliefs and hopes of the public. The terrorist military council has been continuously destroying and removing statues of General Aung San and national heroes built during the NLD government's tenure across the country, and it is known that at least 15 statues have been destroyed and removed to date.
