30 Cambodian Officials and Teachers to Attend AI Training in India for STEM Education Enhancement

Thirty officials and teachers from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia will travel to India to participate in a training program focused on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. The program is scheduled to run from July 22 to August 4, 2026. The Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh organized a farewell reception for the 30 Cambodian participants prior to their departure. The event was attended by H.E. San Vathana, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, along with dignitaries from the Indian Embassy and the trainees. The training course is themed "Framework for AI Integration to Enhance STEM Education." It aims to impart knowledge and practical skills on utilizing AI in teaching, employing virtual labs, scientific simulations, and leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to support learner-centric education. In his address, H.E. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Ambassador of India to Cambodia, underscored the strategic importance of the program in integrating AI into STEM education. Referencing the long-standing civilizational and historical ties between the two nations, he reiterated India's commitment to strengthening cooperation in the education sector. The Ambassador expressed strong confidence that the knowledge and experience gained by the participants in India would significantly contribute to improving the quality of education in Cambodia and further fortify bilateral cooperation, mutual understanding, and people-to-people relations. He encouraged the participants to serve as "ambassadors of friendship" and bridges for robust India-Cambodia cooperation. The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program was established by the Government of India on September 15, 1964, as a significant initiative for technical cooperation and capacity building for partner countries. It operates based on the specific needs of partner nations, aiming to support developing countries through training and human resource development opportunities across various sectors. Since 1981, over 3,300 Cambodian citizens and officials have participated in ITEC training programs, with India annually offering 300 ITEC training slots to Cambodia.
