Nearly 10,000 Children Treated for Dengue Fever in August at Cambodia's Kantha Bopha Hospitals

Cambodia has reported a significant surge in dengue fever cases, with 9,631 infants and children receiving treatment at Kantha Bopha hospitals in August alone. The Kantha Bopha Children's Hospital Foundation is appealing to the public for financial contributions to save the lives of numerous children. According to the hospital's report, 9,631 children were treated for dengue fever in August. This situation is expected to continue into September. Due to the severity of the illness, wards have seen overcrowding, with more than two children per bed and some patients being treated in corridors. In total for August, Kantha Bopha hospitals provided consultations and treatments to 147,726 children. Of these, 105,697 were outpatient cases, while 29,236 were admitted for severe conditions requiring hospitalization. Additionally, 3,162 children underwent surgery, including 115 who received transcatheter cardiac procedures at Kantha Bopha hospitals in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The Ministry of Health has indicated that the rainy season typically leads to an increase in stagnant water, which serves as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. This can result in a rise in mosquito populations and dengue fever outbreaks, necessitating collective efforts from individuals, families, and communities for prevention and control.
