Vietnam Boosts Education Infrastructure in Mountainous Ethnic Minority Areas

On September 5th, a new academic year began with the opening ceremony of the boarding primary and secondary school in Son Thuy village, Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam. This new educational facility will enable approximately 1,000 students and teachers to start the new school year in a modern environment. The newly constructed Son Thuy Boarding Primary and Secondary School is built on a campus of over 1 hectare and includes classrooms, specialized rooms, a library, a multi-purpose hall, boarding facilities, and teacher accommodations. This will allow children living in the surrounding mountainous ethnic minority areas to receive education in a better learning environment. Government officials, including National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Doan Anh and Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Secretary Le Duc Thai, attended the opening ceremony and delivered congratulatory speeches. Scholarships were also presented to 60 students facing economic difficulties. Furthermore, a clean water supply system for the students was provided through donations from the construction contractor and local residents. This project demonstrates the Vietnamese government's commitment to improving educational infrastructure in mountainous ethnic minority regions. Addressing educational disparities, particularly in remote and economically disadvantaged areas, is a key aspect of social development under Vietnam's one-party system. The government aims to improve the overall living standards of its citizens and maintain social stability through investment in education. During construction, despite labor shortages, not only the contractors but also military personnel, local government officials, teachers, and parents collaborated to prepare the site, plant trees, and carry out cleaning activities. Community involvement fostered a sense of ownership and contributed to the project's timely completion. The principal of the Son Thuy Boarding Primary and Secondary School stated, "Thanks to the deep concern of the Party and State for education in mountainous regions, and the dedication of all involved, this modern school has been completed. It will enable students to receive high-quality education and contribute to achieving the goals of the new academic year." The opening of this school is the fulfillment of a long-held wish for many teachers, students, and parents living in the border areas of Thanh Hoa province, bringing great joy to the local community.
