Mondulkiri Fire Police Educate Residents on Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Measures

In Mondulkiri province, Cambodia, the Provincial Fire Police Department is actively conducting educational activities on fire prevention and extinguishing for residents to enhance safety and minimize fire risks. According to Mr. Muong Sophorn, head of the Mondulkiri Provincial Fire Police Office, this awareness campaign is implemented under the directives of the National Police General Commissariat. It targets a wide range of individuals, including business owners, petrol station operators, and other commercial entities throughout the province. Participants have the opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge on the proper use of fire extinguishers and basic rescue techniques. The initiative has been intensively carried out since early September 2026, under the leadership of the Provincial Police Commissioner, involving police stations across five districts and 21 communes/sub-districts within the province. Special emphasis is placed on enhancing residents' knowledge of fire prevention, particularly in anticipation of upcoming national holidays and the dry season. This includes raising awareness about the use of electrical systems, cooking gas appliances, and sources of ignition such as candles and incense. The specialized teams are guiding households on electrical safety, recommending regular checks of old wiring, plugs, and electrical appliances to prevent short circuits and fires. They are also demonstrating the correct way to close gas cylinders after use, the importance of keeping cooking stoves away from flammable materials, and the effective techniques for operating fire extinguishers (chemical type) with precise targeting. Furthermore, guidance is provided on emergency response procedures, stressing the importance of remaining calm, evacuating from hazardous areas, and promptly reporting incidents to the authorities via hotline numbers. This facilitates timely intervention to protect lives and property. The Mondulkiri Provincial Police are also urging business owners, particularly those with land plots, plantations, and resorts, to maintain clean surroundings by clearing vegetation to prevent fires from spreading from external sources.
