Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has ordered the implementation of urgent measures to address challenges and promote the development of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) sector. The Prime Minister also announced an open call for feedback from citizens and business operators to inform policy-making.
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, has announced the order to prepare additional necessary and urgent measures to address the challenges and promote the development of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) sector in the country. He also called on the public and businesses in this sector to provide feedback for joint problem-solving. In a post on his official social media on the morning of July 19, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasized that the SME sector is a crucial engine for national economic growth and essential for creating employment for citizens. He highlighted that the role of SMEs is increasingly indispensable, especially as Cambodia needs to boost domestic production to replace imports. To respond to these practical needs, the Prime Minister has assigned the task to H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, to lead the development, consideration, and implementation of several additional necessary and urgent measures. While acknowledging the many positive achievements under the previous government and the current 7th mandate, Samdech Thipadei frankly admitted that this sector still faces several challenges that require continued resolution. In the spirit of "Thinking Together, Working Together for the Common Benefit of the Nation," Samdech Thipadei warmly welcomed opinions and the raising of challenges from citizens, especially those directly engaged in SME businesses. The government stated that these opinions will serve as important inputs and a valuable foundation, enabling the government to implement more effective, targeted, and timely solutions. It is also worth noting that in formulating policies, the Cambodian government has always conducted detailed studies and close consultations with SME representatives, the private sector, and relevant ministries and institutions to ensure transparency and sustainable development.
