Cambodia Warned of Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Thunderstorms Due to Tropical Storms

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a notification on August 5, 2026, stating that tropical storms Kujira (14th) and Dolphin (13th) will strongly influence the southwest monsoon, potentially causing heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across the Kingdom of Cambodia from August 5th to August 15th, 2026. According to the ministry's announcement, a low-pressure system over the South China Sea has developed into tropical storm Kujira, which, along with tropical storm Dolphin, is exerting a strong influence on the southwest monsoon blowing over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, and the Cambodian Sea. Cambodia is not in the direct path of these two storms, but their influence is causing noticeable weather changes. For lowland areas, including provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Poipet, Kampong Cham, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh capital, there is a 50% chance of rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. For highland areas, including provinces like Kampong Speu, Pailin, Udor Mean Chey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and the Dangrek and Kravanh mountain ranges, there is a 60% chance of rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. Coastal areas, including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range, are expected to experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms covering 70% of the area. Additionally, strong sea waves are anticipated, with average heights ranging from a minimum of 0.50 meters to a maximum of 1.75 meters. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology urges the public to exercise extreme caution regarding heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, especially for those traveling by land and water.
