Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources Meets JICA to Enhance Water Resource Development Cooperation
Cambodia's Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, Pich Vathana, met with JICA President YASUI Takehiro in Tokyo. The meeting expressed gratitude for JICA's long-standing support in water resource management and development in Cambodia, confirming continued cooperation. The importance of ODA, including technical assistance and soft loan projects, was highlighted.
On the afternoon of Thursday, September 10, 2026, H.E. Pich Vathana, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, led an inter-ministerial delegation to pay a courtesy call on H.E. YASUI Takehiro, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), at JICA's headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. H.E. Pich Vathana conveyed profound gratitude from H.E. Thor Cheuntha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, to JICA for its consistent attention and support for development in all sectors in Cambodia, particularly in water resource management and development through Official Development Assistance (ODA), including the dispatch of technical advisors, implementation of technical cooperation projects, and concessional loan projects. H.E. YASUI Takehiro, President of JICA, expressed his admiration and high appreciation for the smooth cooperation in managing and operating various projects funded by JICA to date. Concurrently, H.E. the President requested that the relevant parties continue to strengthen this excellent cooperation further, for both ongoing projects and future initiatives. This meeting served as an opportunity to deepen the cooperation between the two countries towards improving water resource infrastructure and management capacity in Cambodia. Especially as addressing climate change and ensuring sustainable water resource utilization become urgent issues, JICA's technical and financial support is expected to continue playing a vital role for Cambodia.
