National Assembly reviews bill on WMD non-proliferation

The National Assembly of Vietnam reviewed a bill aimed at preventing, detecting, and stopping the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and related delivery systems. Many deputies agreed on the necessity of this law, stating that it will help complete the legal framework for implementing Vietnam's international commitments and proactively prevent, detect, and stop the proliferation of WMD. This bill is expected to strengthen compliance with international treaties and agreements concerning the non-proliferation of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, further solidifying Vietnam's national security system. In particular, it aims to resolve delays in domestic legal frameworks and deepen international cooperation in response to escalating global security challenges. Vietnam has consistently positioned the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as the cornerstone of international security and remains committed to promoting nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. The current review of the bill demonstrates alignment between its foreign policy and domestic legislation. As Vietnam continues its economic growth, it is advancing the development of legal systems that align with international standards in the security sector to establish its position as a responsible member of the international community. The NA Standing Committee is also reviewing this draft law, and following discussions among deputies, the aim will be to finalize and pass the bill. This legislative measure is expected to enhance Vietnam's international credibility and contribute to the stabilization of its domestic security environment.
