Cambodia to Host International Conference on Combating Tech Scams; India Pledges Full Support

Cambodia is set to host the "International Conference on Combating Technological Scams" in Phnom Penh from September 23rd to 24th, 2026. On July 22nd, Deputy Prime Minister Tea Seiha Sinarith (Special Mission Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Combating Technological Scams) met with Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, the Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia. During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Sinarith highly valued the strong relations and cooperation between the two countries and emphasized the importance of information exchange and capacity building for experts in combating cybercrime. He also briefed the ambassador on the upcoming international conference hosted by Cambodia and requested India's support and participation in sharing experiences. In response, Ambassador Bawitlung expressed his deep gratitude for the close cooperation between the two nations. He highly commended the Cambodian government's active efforts and stringent measures in combating technological scams and praised the government's keen attention to the safety and situation of victims of such scams. Furthermore, the Ambassador affirmed his full support for the "International Conference on Combating Technological Scams" that Cambodia will host in the near future. Before concluding, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanged views on strengthening future cooperation, particularly in timely information exchange and training to enhance the capacity of specialized officials in effectively suppressing and combating technological scams. This conference comes against the backdrop of rising online fraud in Cambodia and growing concerns over increasing victim numbers. As cybercrime escalates across the Southeast Asian region, strengthening international collaboration is an urgent priority. India, with its extensive experience and technological capabilities in cybercrime countermeasures, is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing regional efforts through its cooperation with Cambodia.
