Senator Rodante Marcoleta is on his way to the UP Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) in Manila to undergo a medical examination. This transfer comes following an order from the Sandiganbayan, the anti-graft court. According to a report by Mark Makalalad on Super Radyo dzBB, Marcoleta was observed using a wheelchair and wearing a protective vest during his movement. A statement from the PNP General Hospital indicated that measures were being put in place commensurate with potential threats, whether from individuals or other sources, to ensure the senator's safety while under the custody and care of the PNP. "The vest is obvious. It was for his protection. We plan for any eventuality, we plan for all contingencies for the personal protection of our senator," the statement added. The Sandiganbayan's Third Division specifically instructed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and officers of the PNP General Hospital to transport Marcoleta to the PGH at 12 p.m. The police were also directed to return Marcoleta to the PNP hospital after the medical examination and to present him before the court on Wednesday. Marcoleta is currently detained in relation to a P75-million plunder case concerning his undeclared campaign donations.
