Cambodia and Malaysia Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Cambodia and Malaysia have agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in various priority sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, education, security, labor, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. This agreement was confirmed during the 3rd Cambodia-Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on August 4, 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, Prak Sokhonn, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan. Representatives from relevant ministries and institutions of both countries also participated, confirming close collaboration to ensure the effective implementation of cooperation in the aforementioned key areas. As a result of the meeting, both co-chairs signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the 3rd Cambodia-Malaysia JCBC. This memorandum serves as a roadmap to guide and further develop bilateral cooperation between the two nations. This strengthening of cooperation is seen as part of Cambodia's broader efforts to deepen ties with neighboring countries as it enhances its economic and strategic importance within the ASEAN region. In particular, deepening trade and investment relations could contribute to Cambodia's economic growth and job creation.
