Vietnam Seeks New Growth Drivers to Elevate Global Standing

Vietnam’s BRICS attendance gives it a platform to engage members and partners, debate global and regional governance, especially economic and development issues tied to emerging and developing economies; and identify directions and solutions. That supports Vietnam’s shift “from engaging in rule-making to contributing to shaping rules”, raising its voice in international frameworks, rules and standards, and cementing its global standing. Science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and AI must be translated into higher productivity rather than pursued as ends in themselves. At the same time, people should be placed at the centre of development, not merely viewed as a resource but as the ultimate objective of development policies. Party General Secretary and President To Lam called for joint efforts to create new growth drivers based on science, technology, innovation and green transformation, encouraging New Zealand businesses to view Vietnam not only as a market but also as a partner for research, product development, manufacturing and innovation in Southeast Asia. A major goal of the GoGlobal Programme for 2026-2030 is to promote Vietnamese products not just by boosting raw exports, but by building stronger brands, increasing competitiveness, and establishing a lasting presence in international markets. Vietnam can draw valuable lessons from the RoK’s smart agriculture development model, said Vu Phong Lam, Research Professor at the Greenhouse Environment Laboratory, Department of Horticultural Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Chungnam National University.
