E-Cigarette Crackdown on Bangla Road, Patong

Local officials have intensified efforts to restore social order in Phuket's Patong district, launching a late-night inspection in the bustling Bangla Road area and its surroundings to combat the illegal sale of e-cigarettes. On Thursday, September 17th, at 9:00 PM, local authorities, under the direction of Pol. Lt. Col. Khetarat Chansilp, Deputy Governor of Phuket and Acting Security Advisor to the Ministry of Interior, conducted the operation. The inspection, aimed at restoring order within the community, specifically targets the illegal sale of e-cigarettes, which has been observed to be spreading, particularly among younger demographics. Authorities issued warnings to establishments and individuals found selling illegal e-cigarettes and confiscated a portion of the products. The Deputy Governor of Phuket emphasized that similar crackdowns will continue, demonstrating a firm stance against illegal activities. In Thailand, the sale, import, and possession of e-cigarettes are prohibited by law, with violators potentially facing fines or imprisonment. Despite these regulations, illegal sales persist, especially in tourist areas.
