Cambodia and US Affirm Strengthened Ties at Independence Day Celebration

Phnom Penh, July 4, 2026 -- Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, stated that the long-standing diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the United States will continue to be further strengthened. He noted that diplomatic ties between the two countries have improved Cambodia's situation in sectors such as commerce, investment, education, and demining, and have also led to a shared commitment to maintaining global security. The celebration event was held on July 4th (US Independence Day) at the Chatomuk pedestrian walkway. The event was attended by Ms. Aleksandra Zittle, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Cambodia, who enjoyed the US product exhibition booths and culinary culture. Governor Khuong Sreng mentioned that this event took place just five days after the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the United States, which was on June 29th. He stated that Cambodia enjoys complete peace under the leadership of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, and is currently led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, and this peaceful situation is further promoting the progress of bilateral relations. The Phnom Penh Capital Hall cooperated with the US Embassy in organizing the event by providing the Chatomuk pedestrian walkway, a popular location for commercial activities and tourists. Chargé d'Affaires Zittle expressed gratitude for being able to celebrate this important year, the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, together with Cambodian friends. She also stated that the performance by the Pacific Brass band is a "universal language" that transcends borders, connects cultures, and directly touches people's hearts, emphasizing that this event symbolizes the strong bonds and friendship between the peoples of both nations.
