Police Announce Wanted Notices for Three Anti-State Activists

Vietnamese police have announced wanted notices for three anti-state activists accused of attempting to overthrow the state. According to indictments issued by the Hanoi People's Procuracy, Doan Bao Chau (born in 1968, residing in Giang Vo ward, Hanoi) appeared in livestreams on the BBC Vietnamese YouTube channel and his personal Facebook account, "Chau Doan," on May 2, 2024, delivering content that distorted and defamed the people's administration, fabricated information that caused public anxiety, and conducted psychological warfare. The move was made as part of an expanded investigation into a criminal case involving Nguyen Thanh Nam, who is accused of "making, storing, distributing or spreading information, documents and items aimed at sabotaging the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam." According to investigators, the two allegedly produced, stored and distributed numerous video clips and a book entitled "Chuyen voi Thanh – loi ke moi ve anh sang" (Stories with Thanh – a new account of light). The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, acting as the standing agency of Dong Thap's IUU Steering Committee, has been tasked with reviewing and updating the province's action plan to address recommendations raised during the EC's fifth inspection mission on Vietnam's anti-IUU efforts.
