Cambodia to Overhaul SME Registration Process, PM Orders Swift Action

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has instructed relevant ministries to strictly implement a fundamental reform and acceleration of the registration process for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This reform aims to eliminate the need for entrepreneurs to seek permits from multiple ministries and institutions as before, thereby speeding up the registration process. Relevant ministries will cooperate to simplify procedures for applicants and protect their interests by combating counterfeit products. This directive was decided during a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Hun Manet. Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that he will directly monitor and drive the success of this initiative. He expressed gratitude for the public's input regarding various challenges faced by SMEs and announced that based on these opinions and further consultations with stakeholders, especially the private sector, the government will implement decisive measures to address key issues for SMEs. This reform highlights the crucial role of SMEs in Cambodia's economy. SMEs are vital for national development as engines of job creation and economic growth. However, they have historically faced numerous challenges, including complex administrative procedures, difficulties in accessing finance, and limitations in market access. The simplification of procedures is a significant step towards removing these barriers, fostering entrepreneurship, and enabling more individuals to start and grow businesses. Furthermore, strengthening measures against counterfeit products is essential for protecting domestic industries and maintaining consumer trust. Counterfeits not only undermine the revenue of legitimate businesses but can also lead to quality and safety concerns.
