Thanh Hoa Province Collects Remains for DNA Identification of Unidentified Martyrs

In central Vietnam's Thanh Hoa Province, the collection of DNA samples from the remains of unidentified martyrs began on August 3rd at the Ham Rong Cemetery. This initiative is being carried out in coordination between the Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command and the Party Committee and local authorities of Ham Rong Ward, with the goal of future identification through DNA analysis. Provincial leaders, relevant departments, and local residents attended to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers. The Ham Rong Cemetery is the resting place for approximately 2,000 martyrs, of which over 1,000 are unidentified. From August 3rd to the 25th, specialized teams will exhume unidentified graves, collect bone samples, complete documentation, digitize data, and ensure proper storage and handover of samples according to technical procedures. The Ham Rong Ward considers this endeavor a critically important and deeply humane political mission, embodying the national spirit of "when drinking water, remember its source." Local authorities are closely collaborating with the Provincial Military Command, providing human resources and support to ensure the sampling process is conducted scientifically, safely, solemnly, and meticulously. All collected bone samples will be digitized and utilized for management, storage, and DNA testing. This effort is expected to contribute to the early identification of unidentified martyrs and their reunion with their families.
