Vietnam Busts Fake Stroke Drugs, Threatening Public Health and Market Trust

In Quang Ngai province, central Vietnam, an organization that manufactured and sold counterfeit stroke prevention drugs, primarily using flour and chemicals as raw materials, has been busted. It has been revealed that this organization sold these fake drugs at high prices, putting the health of many citizens at risk. The busted organization was selling products that did not contain the ingredients recognized as legitimate pharmaceuticals, while pretending they were effective treatments. Such acts not only severely damage trust in Vietnam's domestic pharmaceutical market but also pose a direct and serious threat to public health. In recent years, with economic growth, public interest in healthcare has been rising in Vietnam. Consequently, the pharmaceutical market has expanded, but at the same time, issues like the circulation of counterfeit drugs have become apparent. The government has indicated its policy to strengthen crackdowns on the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit medicines to protect public health. This incident highlights the challenges in market regulation under Vietnam's one-party system and suggests the social risks arising in the shadow of economic growth.
