Heavy Rains Flood Tan Phong Underpass and Roads in Dong Nai

A severe downpour on the afternoon of September 18th caused localized flooding in Dong Nai province, affecting multiple roads including the Tan Phong underpass. The heavy rain, which began around 5 PM, led to significant disruptions. Bui Van Hoa Street (Long Binh ward) saw many sections submerged over half a car tire, making passage difficult. Deteriorated road surfaces and potholes exacerbated the challenges for residents and workers commuting home. On Dong Khoi Street, water gushed like a waterfall from alley 68, creating a localized flood point. Several motorcycles attempting to cross the flooded area stalled, forcing riders to wade through the water. A section of National Highway 1, from Tam Hiep roundabout towards Amata Industrial Park, also experienced flooding, hampering traffic flow. The Tan Phong underpass on Dong Khoi Street experienced minor flooding in both directions. This underpass had previously suffered severe flooding after prolonged heavy rain in 2023, exceeding its pumping system's capacity. Later that evening, heavy rain in Long Phuoc commune submerged Bau Can Street. Around 7:30 PM, water from the area bordering Phuoc Hoa and Thai Hiep Thanh hamlets flowed strongly, causing severe flooding on Bau Can Street with swift currents in some parts. Many travelers had to stop and seek shelter, waiting for the water to recede. Leaders from Long Phuoc commune, along with police and militia forces, were present at the scene to assist residents. They also identified areas at high risk of deeper flooding and cautioned people against entering fast-flowing, dangerous zones. By around 8:30 PM, the water began to recede gradually, and traffic slowly returned to normal. On the evening of September 18th, the Dong Nai Provincial Hydro-Meteorological Station reported that heavy rain continued in several areas, potentially causing flooding in Long Binh, Tam Hiep, Trang Dai, Tran Bien, Long Hung, Phuoc Tan, Tam Phuoc, An Phuoc, and surrounding areas. Flooding was expected to last 30-60 minutes, with depths reaching approximately 0.5 meters in the deepest spots. Areas near rivers and small streams might experience deeper and longer-lasting inundation due to prolonged heavy rainfall and upstream water flow. The natural disaster risk warning for flooding was issued at Level 1. Low-lying areas, those with inadequate drainage, or areas undergoing construction and repair are at high risk of flooding.
