Cambodia Equips Youth with 'Weapons of Thought' to Combat Drugs and Strengthen Traffic Laws
Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province has launched a campaign to provide the youth with 'weapons of thought' to combat drug abuse and promote adherence to traffic laws. The initiative in Serei Saophoan city aims to enhance young people's understanding of drug dangers and their commitment to traffic regulations.
Authorities in Banteay Meanchey province have demonstrated a strong commitment to increasing awareness and equipping the youth with 'weapons of thought' to collectively build a drug-free society and reduce traffic accidents through an in-depth awareness campaign. This cautionary and directional message was conveyed during a dissemination event on 'Drug Abuse Prevention and Road Traffic Law' for the Cambodian Youth Federation (S.S.Y.C.) of Serei Saophoan City, held on Sunday morning, July 12, 2026. The event took place at the Cham Sothavasea Pagoda (also known as Svay Chas Pagoda) in Preah Ponlea commune, Serei Saophoan city, under the auspices of H.E. Yim Samnang, Deputy Governor of Banteay Meanchey Provincial Administration. The ceremony was facilitated by Mr. Samnang Daniel, President of S.S.Y.C. Serei Saophoan City, along with the secretariat, vice presidents, and members of the S.S.Y.C. communes/cities, in cooperation with local authorities, all three types of armed forces, and the administrations of the seven communes. Speaking on this significant occasion, H.E. Yim Samnang emphasized that drugs and traffic accidents are major challenges threatening social security, order, and human resource development. In this regard, the Deputy Governor outlined the key objectives of the educational campaign: to enhance knowledge and understanding of the severe dangers of drugs, which not only harm individual health but also impact family economies and the overall stability of the nation. To increase and strengthen the skills of youth in refusing drugs and protecting themselves from the influence of seduction or distribution. To promote and increase active participation from youth in preventing and reporting drug distribution activities in their localities to the authorities for timely action. To encourage youth to become leading forces in education, dissemination, and mutual support, aiming to create a drug-free society and become a strong core force for national development. To strengthen close cooperation with relevant institutions, including schools, youth organizations, and local authorities at all levels, to expand the scope and effectiveness of this educational program. Alongside the warnings about drug issues, the Deputy Governor also integrated stern educational content, imparting comprehensive knowledge about road traffic laws to all young people to enhance legal compliance. This is to be coupled with promoting a culture of responsible and considerate driving, thereby reducing the rate of accidents and loss of life on the roads. Through this campaign, the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Administration strongly hopes that the youth of S.S.Y.C. Serei Saophoan City will take the knowledge gained from this dissemination event to further share and serve as good role models in their communities, actively contributing to making the 'Safe Village-Commune-Sangkat' policy even more effective.
