Chiang Rai Officials Leverage Smart Data for Rapid Flood Victim Location

Flash floods and sudden mudslides have caused severe damage across parts of the Chiang Khong district in Chiang Rai, leaving many local families in desperate need of clean water and basic supplies. In response, local government officials from the Chiang Rai social development office, in collaboration with community leaders, focused their initial rescue efforts on the devastated neighborhoods of the Rim Khong community. The dedicated rescue team packed essential survival bags with healthy food, clean drinking water, and everyday household items, and went directly to the homes of those who needed help the most. Support reached 17 different families in Ban Huai Yen, along with one family each in Ban Song Phi Nong and Ban Muang Kan. In addition to providing food and water, the team offered much-needed emotional support to the flood victims. Special emergency relief funds were also approved for five heavily impacted families to aid in rebuilding their lives and homes. The success of this specific rescue mission was attributed to the smart use of modern technology. The team utilized a special digital database known as the MSO Logbook to track residents. This system carefully tracks important information about the most vulnerable people living in the community. Using this data, officials could easily identify exactly where the elderly and disabled lived, allowing them to bypass blind searches through flooded streets and go directly to homes requiring urgent medical or personal care. The Rim Khong area is currently home to over four thousand vulnerable people, including 546 children, 793 elderly adults, 200 disabled individuals, and over a thousand low-income earners. The smart tracking system ensured that none of these vulnerable individuals were left behind. This quick and effective response demonstrated the incredible power of community teamwork during a crisis, with local politicians, village heads, and government workers collaborating to help others. By using accurate digital data, the local government can plan much better for future weather emergencies and ensure life-saving relief supplies are always ready for those most at risk. The successful MSO Logbook system is setting a great example for other provinces across the country. Chiang Rai officials plan to keep updating this important database regularly to maintain accurate local records and ensure they are always ready to protect their most vulnerable citizens from harm.
