51 Families Evacuated in Baguio City Amidst Severe Rain Damage

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) and recent tropical cyclones triggered landslides, flooding, and tree falls, causing damage to houses across this city and forcing dozens of families to evacuate, according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). In a Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis report on Friday, it was noted that 51 families have been displaced due to the damage to their homes. Baguio City, a popular tourist destination in the northern Philippines, is particularly susceptible to natural disasters due to its topography. The heavy rains have saturated the soil, increasing the risk of landslides in already vulnerable areas. Local authorities have been working to provide immediate assistance to the affected families, including temporary shelter and essential supplies. Emergency response teams are on standby to address any further incidents.
