Vietnam Detects Over 4,000 Drivers Exceeding Driving Hours, Enhancing Safety Measures

Vietnam's Traffic Police Department (Cục Cảnh sát giao thông - CSGT) announced on July 23 that through the analysis of data from the vehicle tracking system (giám sát hành trình) between midnight and 7 AM on the same day, over 4,000 drivers of transport vehicles were found to have exceeded their legal driving hours. This system is managed and monitored by the data center of the Ministry of Public Security (Bộ Công an) and is used for processing violations and directing traffic operations. The investigation identified 168 transport vehicles showing signs of violation, leading to a more detailed review. In Vietnam, fatigued driving during long-distance transport is considered one of the primary causes of traffic accidents, and the traffic police are intensifying crackdowns on such violations. With Vietnam's economy continuing to grow under its one-party system, the expansion of the logistics network has led to an increase in the number of transport vehicles, making traffic safety measures a pressing issue. This discovery highlights the effectiveness of the current monitoring system and the need for further measures. The Vietnamese government has designated the improvement of traffic safety as one of its national priorities, aiming to reduce traffic accidents through strict enforcement of driving hour regulations and enhanced penalties for violators.
