Cambodia Braces for Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms Amidst Low-Pressure Systems
Cambodia is forecast to experience widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusts from August 7th to 9th, influenced by low-pressure systems over the Pacific. Highland areas are expected to be most affected, with 70% of the land area potentially impacted. Coastal and lowland regions also require caution.
The Cambodian Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has issued a weather forecast indicating that widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusts are expected across the nation from August 7th to 9th, influenced by tropical low-pressure systems over the Pacific Ocean. According to the ministry's bulletin, three significant weather systems are currently active: Tropical Depression Chan-hom (T2615) over the western Pacific, Tropical Depression Kujira (T2614), and Typhoon Dolphin (T2613). These systems are exerting a strong influence on the southwest monsoon winds blowing over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and subsequently impacting the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia itself is not directly in the path of these three storm systems. This meteorological situation is expected to affect weather conditions within Cambodia from August 7th to 9th. In lowland areas, temperatures will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 35°C, with winds blowing from the southwest and northwest at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Fifteen provinces, including Battambang, Kampong Cham, and Kandal, along with the capital city of Phnom Penh, may experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusts affecting 40% of their land area. In highland areas, temperatures will range from a minimum of 24°C to a maximum of 34°C, with winds blowing from the southwest and west at an average speed of 4 meters per second. Provinces such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom Mountains are likely to experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusts covering 70% of their land area. Along the coast, temperatures will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 35°C, with winds blowing from the southeast at an average speed of 2 meters per second. Coastal provinces including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range are forecast to have rain, thunderstorms, and gusts affecting 60% of their land area. Sea waves are expected to range from a minimum height of 0.50 meters to a maximum of 1.75 meters. The meteorological authorities urge the public to stay informed about these weather developments.
