It is reported that a traveler died of malnutrition inside a betel quid shop in Shwe Nyaung town, Taunggyi Township, Southern Shan State. Around 8 AM on July 30, 2026, a man was found dead inside the "Ei Ei Mon" betel quid shop located on the left side of the Union Highway connecting Shwe Nyaung and Taunggyi, in Sint Hla Ward, Shwe Nyaung town. "He is estimated to have died last night. We have also been able to contact his family. According to his wife, he went to Shan State for work despite being unwell. A responsible person said that he had a cold and was suffering from malnutrition." Upon receiving the report of a man found dead inside the "Ei Ei Mon" betel quid shop on the left side of the Union Highway connecting Shwe Nyaung and Taunggyi, in Sint Hla Ward, Shwe Nyaung town, police officers from the Shwe Nyaung police station, along with witnesses, arrived at the scene at 8:10 AM and conducted an investigation. It was found that a man was lying dead on his back on a betel quid table inside the "Ei Ei Mon" betel quid shop, approximately 4 feet long and 7 feet wide, due to lack of food and water, weakness, and cold, with no external injuries. On the right side of the deceased man's body, inside a navy blue backpack with an apple design, a national identification card in the name of U Thet Khine Soe and a bus ticket stub from Yangon to Taunggyi in the name of U Thet Khine Soe were found. The deceased was identified as U Thet Khine Soe, 37 years old, son of U Tin San, residing in Myo Twin Village, Myo Twin Village Tract, Ayeyarwady Region. The body of the deceased man, U Thet Khine Soe, was sent to Sao San Tun Hospital in Taunggyi town at 8:40 AM with a police medical report to determine if the death was natural. The Shwe Nyaung police station has opened a case of unnatural death for the deceased man, U Thet Khine Soe, and is continuing the investigation. Sithar (Taunggyi)
