Jakarta Faces Drought in Several Areas; Authorities Pledge Water Aid

The DKI Jakarta provincial government has confirmed the distribution of water aid to residents in several areas experiencing drought. This step was taken following reports of drought received by the government in several sub-districts. Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono, stated that the DKI Provincial Government monitors public reports to determine areas that require water assistance. This information can be submitted through the JAKI application or directly to the government. "So, we are still distributing water. I have received reports of drought in several sub-districts," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (15/9/2026). He assured that reports received by the government would be followed up with assistance to affected residents. "And always, whether the report comes through JAKI or directly, we will anticipate providing water assistance to the community," he said. Pramono also checked the drought conditions in the Meruya area, West Jakarta. In this area, one water pump is usually used to meet the needs of three to four houses, but the water supply has started to be affected by the drought. According to Pramono, this condition is not unrelated to weather factors. He hopes that the El Niño phenomenon will not last beyond September 2026, as the impact of the drought would otherwise become more widespread.
