Jakarta Tops Human Development Index Again, Proof of Improving Education, Health, and Quality of Life

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the Human Development Index (IPM) for the capital city, Jakarta, has achieved its highest point, proving the continuous improvement in the quality of education, health, and life for its residents. He stated that this accomplishment demonstrates that the policies implemented by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government are on the right track. Pramono conveyed this while opening the National Creativity Day for Teachers 2026 Workshop at the DKI Jakarta Education Office in South Jakarta on Thursday (8/6/2026). "Jakarta has just achieved the Human Development Index, or IPM. This index measures the quality of education, health, and quality of life in each province," Pramono explained. According to the governor, Jakarta once again ranked as the province with the highest IPM in Indonesia. This year, its value increased to 85.05 from approximately 84 in the previous year. "Last year, Jakarta was already number one. What makes me happy is that in the 2026 data, which was announced a few days ago, Jakarta is number one again, and the figure has increased to 85.05," he said. Pramono indicated that this increase reflects the improving quality of services in education, health, and social aspects within Jakarta. "This shows that comfort, security, education, health, and things related to social welfare are indeed getting better in Jakarta," he stated. However, Pramono emphasized that this achievement should not be solely a cause for pride. For him, Jakarta's position as the province with the highest IPM serves as a reminder for the government to continuously enhance the quality of services provided to the public. "For me personally as the Governor of Jakarta, this is certainly not something to be proud of. But it serves as a reminder to all of us that what we have been doing is on the right track," he said. Pramono also presented the top five provinces with the highest IPM in Indonesia. Jakarta is in first place, followed by the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Riau, East Kalimantan, and Bali. He expressed his hope that this achievement would serve as a foundation for all elements of society, especially teachers, to continue improving the quality of human resources in Jakarta. "So that this foundation becomes the basis for all of us, especially teachers, to feel proud and to jointly own Jakarta," he concluded.
