Vietnam Southern Power Grid Enhances Coordination for Safe Operation

Amidst the context of continuously increasing electricity demand, rapid shifts in the power source structure, and a growing proportion of renewable energy, strengthening coordination among electricity dispatch, transmission, and distribution units is identified as a crucial solution to ensure the safe, stable, and reliable operation of the southern power system in Vietnam. EVNNPT (Vietnam Electricity Transmission Company) is proactively implementing solutions to ensure the safe operation of the power transmission system. This includes enhancing the coordination efficiency at both central and local government levels for the protection and safety of the transmission grid. Maintaining the national transmission grid in the Northwest region during the rainy and flood season, as well as ensuring the smooth operation of the transmission grid, are also prioritized. Vietnam is facing increasing electricity demand driven by economic growth, with the southern region, in particular, being a hub for industrial concentration and high electricity consumption. The shift from a predominantly thermal power-based energy mix to renewable sources like solar and wind is a significant initiative towards achieving international environmental goals. However, this transition also presents new challenges for the stable operation of the power grid. Renewable energy sources are susceptible to weather conditions, leading to potentially unstable output. Therefore, advanced operational capabilities for real-time balancing of supply and demand across the entire power system, along with close information sharing and collaboration among relevant departments, are indispensable. In this situation, it is imperative that the departments responsible for power operation, transmission grid management, and electricity distribution to households and businesses not only perform their duties independently but also accurately understand each other's situations and make prompt, precise decisions. Specific measures include improving the accuracy of demand forecasting, optimizing generation plans, monitoring the load status of the transmission grid, and sharing and executing rapid response plans in the event of unforeseen circumstances such as equipment failures or natural disasters. The Vietnamese government is continuously investing in power infrastructure to enhance electricity supply capacity, while also promoting the modernization and efficiency of the power system. This move to strengthen coordination is part of the nation's broader energy policy and represents a vital step towards ensuring the reliability of electricity supply, which is essential for sustained economic growth and the stability of people's lives.
