Top Leader Attends Ceremony Marking 72 Years Since Ho Chi Minh's Visit to Hung Kings Temple

General Secretary and President To Lam attended a ceremony marking the 72nd anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Hung Kings Temple, reaffirming the commitment to national unity and development. At the ceremony, To Lam recalled President Ho Chi Minh’s words at Gieng Temple on September 19, 1954, when he spoke with soldiers on their way to take over Hanoi: “The Hung Kings founded the nation; we must together protect it.” These words symbolize the deep attachment of the Vietnamese people to their homeland and their determination to protect and develop the nation. Hung Kings are revered as the founders of Vietnam. The Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day (Hung Kings’ Festival), held annually on the 10th day of the third lunar month, is an important holiday for Vietnamese nationwide to pay tribute to their ancestors and reaffirm the nation’s roots. Notably, the holidays from April 30 to May 1 see a surge in tourists visiting Hung Kings Temple. Phu Tho province alone reportedly welcomed nearly 6.5 million visitors during the Hung Kings Commemoration Day period in 2026. This commemorative ceremony also serves as an opportunity to enhance national patriotism and strengthen support for the Communist Party under Vietnam's one-party system. While Vietnam continues to grow economically, its foundation lies in its historical nation-building narrative and the strong unity of its people who inherit this legacy. Furthermore, in its relations with China, the stance of protecting national independence and sovereignty remains consistent, with historical lessons influencing modern foreign policy.
