Indonesia, Australia Partner on Modern Irrigation in Kalimantan

Indonesia and Australia are establishing a partnership to develop and implement modern irrigation systems in Indonesia's Kalimantan region. This initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure sustainable water resource management. The collaboration further strengthens bilateral ties between the two nations, with a specific focus on technology transfer and infrastructure development in the agricultural sector. The introduction of modern irrigation techniques is expected to improve water use efficiency and bolster the resilience of agriculture against the impacts of climate change, such as droughts and floods. Kalimantan is a crucial region for Indonesia's economic growth, and food security and regional economic development are pressing issues, especially with the ongoing construction of the new capital, Nusantara. Modern irrigation infrastructure has the potential to stabilize crop yields and contribute to increased farmer incomes. Through this project, both countries aim to share best practices for balancing environmental considerations with benefits for local communities.
