Prabowo Expresses Concern Over Widespread Corruption Among Regional Leaders

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed deep concern over the widespread involvement of regional leaders in corruption cases. Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), revealed this to CNN Indonesia on Monday (August 3rd) after a meeting with the President at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. "He is very concerned about the various incidents happening in the regions. So many regional heads have fallen into corruption. Therefore, he is very concerned, and he asks that this also be a serious matter to be considered," Muzani stated. President Prabowo is also paying attention to the democratization process and the implementation of regional governance. According to Muzani, the President views the execution of regional governance as a democratic process that is expensive, complicated, and tiring. During the meeting, the MPR leaders also presented the concept of PPHN (National Policy Framework) to President Prabowo, who welcomed the idea. Muzani described the discussion as warm and productive. Furthermore, the visit by the MPR leadership to the palace was also to extend an invitation to President Prabowo to attend the 2026 MPR Annual Session on August 14, 2026. Muzani was accompanied by MPR Deputy Speakers Eddy Soeparno, Hidayat Nur Wahid, Bambang Pacul, Rusdi Kirana, and Lestari Moerdijat. Corruption involving regional leaders has been a persistent social issue in Indonesia, with the central government continuously strengthening efforts to eradicate it.
