Thai Opposition to File No-Confidence Motion by Month's End

Thailand’s opposition parties are preparing to submit a no-confidence motion against the government by the end of September, injecting fresh political tension into the country. A working group has been formed to prepare the details of the motion and compile a list of ministers the opposition intends to censure, according to a People’s Party list MP speaking at Parliament on Saturday. The opposition remains on its original timetable and aims to complete and submit the motion within the current month. The issues targeted by the opposition fall into two main categories: those already in the public domain and those the opposition has been investigating and collecting information on but have not yet made public. Specific matters include alleged cheating in local government recruitment examinations, alleged collusion in the Senate election, and the TH-AI Passport project. Furthermore, any new issues that may emerge between now and the no-confidence debate could also be included. Regarding individual ministers, the opposition has already agreed to target Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob. Other ministers may be added as information gathering continues from each party. The opposition indicated that while allegations might involve individuals or networks linked to specific provinces, the core of the debate must focus on the Prime Minister and ministers' performance and their duty to serve the public.
