Cambodia Enhances Tourism Human Capital Development to ASEAN Standards
Cambodia's SDF (Skills Development Fund) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance has launched a training program for national trainers and assessors in the tourism sector, aligning with ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement standards. The Skills Development Fund (SDF) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance has been enhancing the development of professionals in the tourism sector to align with ASEAN common standards. On July 13, 2026, in Siem Reap, an opening ceremony was held for the "National Trainer and National Assessor Training Course for Hotel Services in the Spirit of the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals." Speaking at the ceremony, SDF Executive Director H.E. Kith Sokhim highlighted that ASEAN countries are rapidly advancing in developing and strengthening the quality of tourism services. He emphasized that Cambodia must increase investment in skills and human resource development more actively, especially in high-potential tourism areas like Siem Reap province. The establishment of national trainers and assessors in line with ASEAN standards is a strategic key to responding to the National Vision 2050 and demonstrates the collective effort to build a robust ecosystem for training specialized skills, ensuring the progress and sustainability of Cambodia's tourism and hospitality sector. During the event, H.E. Sokhim also visited the Sala Baï Hotel & Restaurant School and Spoons Cambodia Organization to gain a deeper understanding of the vocational training processes in tourism and hospitality offered by partner institutions. The program aims to strengthen the capacity of tourism professionals to meet the rapid competition in the region, with 80 trainees from government and private institutions participating. Additionally, 27 national trainer trainees who successfully completed a prior course received their certificates. To date, SDF has supported skills training for a total of 93,780 trainees, of whom 33% are women. Specifically in the tourism sector, SDF has supported 8,489 trainees (45% women), with Siem Reap province accounting for 5,940 trainees, in response to the region's significant economic and tourism potential.
