Virak Buntharm Express Boosts EV Adoption to 60% to Cut Logistics Costs

Virak Buntharm Express, a leading logistics company in Cambodia, has announced that approximately 60% of its fleet of over 1,000 transport vehicles are now electric vehicles (EVs). The company is promoting the transition from traditional fuel-powered vehicles to EVs with the aim of reducing transportation costs and operational expenses. During a Business and Innovation Forum, Neak Oknha Sour Virak, CEO of Virak Buntharm Express, highlighted high transportation costs as a significant challenge within the domestic logistics sector, noting that in some instances, these costs can be nearly double that of import costs. In response, the company has been exploring cost-reduction measures through the adoption of EVs. Virak explained that the use of environmentally friendly EVs is effective in reducing transportation expenses, particularly amidst fluctuating fuel prices. Furthermore, the company intends to contribute to easing the burden on customers by lowering its service fees. In addition to the shift to EVs, he emphasized that managing a large-scale transportation system requires not only human resources but also technological systems for monitoring and managing operations. Specifically, the company has implemented GPS systems to track vehicle locations and manage operations, from monitoring positions to controlling fuel consumption. The integration of this technology allows the company to gain a clearer understanding of vehicle operational status, enhance work efficiency, reduce unnecessary costs, and mitigate the risk of losses in its transportation operations.
