House fire in Myawaddy, Myanmar, kills 2-month-old baby

It was learned that a house fire occurred in the 5th Ward, Chit Kyi Kyi Road, near Phar Chauk, Myawaddy Township, Karen State, around 3:00 PM on July 1, resulting in the death of a 2-month-old infant. Upon receiving news of a house fire on Chit Kyi Kyi Road in Myawaddy Township, the Myawaddy Township Fire Chief led a firefighting operation with one fire engine, three water tankers, and ten firefighters, and it was learned that the fire was extinguished at 3:28 PM. An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed that the fire started when gasoline in a 5-gallon container near a container used for burning incense ignited while being poured into a can. As a result of the fire, a 10x10 foot walled, ground-level zinc-roofed hut and an unnamed 2-month-old infant died at the scene. The father also sustained burns all over his body and was seriously injured (critical), it was learned. The deceased infant was transported to Myawaddy General Hospital by ambulance by the Z-Rescue Emergency Rescue Team, and the father, who sustained burns while trying to rescue the child, was also transported to Myawaddy Hospital, it was learned.
