Phu Quoc Accelerates Infrastructure for APEC 2027 with Convention Center and Airport Expansion

Infrastructure development is in full swing on Phu Quoc Island, a resort destination in southern Vietnam, in anticipation of hosting the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit. The complex, including the APEC Convention Center spanning approximately 16 hectares, has seen the majority of its steel structure completed after one year of construction. The complex comprises a convention and exhibition center, a multipurpose theater, and an APEC park. The convention and exhibition center, in particular, will feature a distinctive roof designed to resemble 13 waves, promising a spectacular visual when completed. With a structure of four above-ground floors and one basement, it is slated to be equipped to host high-level events across diplomatic, economic, and cultural spheres. Approximately 3,000 workers and technicians are engaged in round-the-clock operations at the construction site, with multiple work crews mobilized to ensure the overall progress of the project. Over 12,000 tons of steel, equivalent to the weight of nearly 100 Boeing aircraft, are being used for the convention center's roof structure. The adjacent multipurpose theater, with a seating capacity of 4,030, has approximately 90% of its construction completed. The theater's roof is designed with a motif inspired by Vietnamese legends, supported by 50 pillars. Furthermore, the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport is also underway about 20 kilometers from the APEC venue. The VIP terminal, designed to accommodate high-level guests, has completed 100% of its structural work. The new terminal will have the capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. The DT.975 road, spanning over 18 kilometers, which connects these key facilities, is also undergoing widening. It is planned to become a broad 10-lane road with a 15-meter-wide central median. Phu Quoc Island aims to develop into an international center for eco-tourism, event hosting, high-end services, and healthcare.
