French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Investment Attraction, Nicolas Forissier, concluded his visit to Cambodia after holding bilateral discussions with Cambodian leaders and senior officials aimed at strengthening cooperation and promoting investment in priority sectors. During a press conference held on the afternoon of July 11, 2026, at the French Embassy in Phnom Penh, Forissier presented the outcomes of his visit and responded to media questions regarding enhanced cooperation and the promotion of strategic investments by French companies in Cambodia. Forissier highlighted the evolution of relations between France and Cambodia, following numerous high-level meetings between the leaders of both nations. The most recent encounters included a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Paris on November 8, and informal meetings on the sidelines of UN Ocean Conferences in Paris in January 2024 and June 2025. King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia also met with the French President twice, in November 2023 and October 2024. Forissier emphasized the significance of the French President's upcoming visit to the Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh this November. This visit, occurring 60 years after Marshal Charles de Gaulle's visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia, is poised to be a historic event contributing to the strengthening of the partnership between the two countries. Forissier noted that Cambodia has undergone significant changes over the past 30 years, and this visit will further solidify bilateral ties. The leaders of both countries aspire to see increased investment from French companies in Cambodia and to bring several strategic projects to fruition. During his visit, the Minister held working meetings with senior Cambodian officials, including H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance; H.E. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce; and H.E. Keo Rattanak, Minister of Mines and Energy. Discussions focused on advancing strategic projects, particularly in the energy and health sectors, where France possesses significant expertise and value. Forissier met with French companies operating in Cambodia. He stated that over 200 French companies have a presence in Cambodia, including more than 35 French subsidiaries, along with numerous entrepreneurs and leaders actively investing in sectors such as transport, energy, finance, health, tourism, hospitality, and construction. Bilateral trade between France and Cambodia reached 1.75 billion euros in 2025, a 17.5% increase compared to 2024. Foreign direct investment from France amounted to 692 million euros by the end of 2024, a 25% rise from 2023. Cambodia exports textiles, rice, and bicycles to France, while France exports aircraft (such as ATR aircraft), agro-industrial products, and pharmaceuticals to Cambodia. During his two-day visit, Forissier inspected the progress of key infrastructure projects and visited Cambodia's new, impressive, and luxurious airport. Major French companies like VINCI Airports, Lagardère Travel Retail, and Newrest played significant roles in its development, with the new airport symbolizing a renewed image in Cambodia's economic development efforts. He also discussed promoting Cambodian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to expand their potential into the French market. Notably, H.E. Cham Nimul successfully participated in a food fair in Paris, and there is a desire to organize a similar exhibition in Cambodia. French companies have also signed agreements with Cambodian counterparts to establish wholesale markets for fresh produce, supporting Cambodia's production, agro-industrial, and export sectors in line with international standards. Furthermore, cooperation projects are underway for the establishment of university hospital centers, energy development, and waste management in Phnom Penh. Forissier confirmed that following the French President's visit for the Francophonie Summit this November, the French-Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with the French Foreign Trade Advisors, will organize the "3rd French-Cambodian Business Forum." Supported by the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, this event is expected to attract around 400 participants, offering a valuable opportunity to explore Cambodia's economic potential. Looking ahead, Forissier envisions Cambodia and France sharing common values and culture. In the current global context marked by conflicts such as in Ukraine and international trade difficulties, strengthening long-term bilateral cooperation based on the rule of law in trade is paramount. He affirmed that President Emmanuel Macron's visit will help accelerate and enhance this win-win economic cooperation, making it faster and more effective. Source: Kampuchea Thmey Local
