Cambodia Steps Up Casino Oversight to Combat Cyber Scams and Assess Quality

Cambodian authorities, led by Deputy Secretary-General of the Gambling Commercial Management Committee (GACC), Sen Sopheap, conducted a quality assessment at the LAS VEGAS SUN casino in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province. This inspection, carried out under the directive of the government's "Cyber Scam Eradication Campaign" issued on July 14, 2025, aims to ensure that casinos are not being used as hubs for cyber scams or other illegal activities. The mission was carried out in the presence of the Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng province, Men Eng, representing Governor Peng Porsal. The inspection also included the Deputy Prosecutor of the Provincial Court, the Deputy Provincial Police Commissioner, the Mayor of Bavet city, and technical teams from various relevant ministries and institutions. The primary objectives of this inspection and assessment are: 1. To ensure that all casinos holding legal licenses are not secretly facilitating cyber scams or other offenses as stipulated in Government Order No. 01 dated July 14, 2025, on the "Cyber Scam Eradication Campaign." 2. To collect and update casino information nationwide to enhance management efficiency and serve as an official basis for reviewing the validity of casino business licenses for 2026. 3. To assess the actual situation of the casino sector in Cambodia, providing crucial input for the formulation of the vision and development strategy for Cambodia's gambling commercial sector for 2030, as well as for preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for managing the casino sector with greater transparency and efficiency. This casino quality assessment activity will be continuously implemented at all casino locations within Svay Rieng province, starting from July 22 and concluding on August 9, 2026.
