MANILA, Philippines — A police corporal assigned to the Taguig City Police Station is now being investigated for allegedly harassing a minor, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said. “This is unacceptable. We condemn any form of misconduct, especially those involving children. We will ensure that the case is investigated thoroughly, impartially, and in accordance with the law,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stressed in a statement on Friday. “I have directed the Southern Police District and the Taguig City Police… to expedite the investigation and submit a report on the incident… [and] to ensure that the respondent remains off operational duties while the case is being resolved,” he noted. He did not name the implicated police officer but detailed that he was assigned to the Taguig City Police Substation 4. Citing information from the victim’s mother, Nartatez said the alleged harassment took place last June 21. “The police officer allegedly caressed the face of her eight-year-old daughter without consent and asked for a kiss, saying she was prettier than his wife,” Nartatez explained. “The girl reportedly felt intimidated, uncomfortable, and embarrassed by the incident,” he added. The implicated police officer was relieved from his post pending an administrative investigation for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer and a criminal investigation for violating Republic Act No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act. The police corporal also faces a case for violating Republic Act No. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. The PNP did not immediately state the implicated police officer’s current disposition. “The actions of one individual do not define the entire organization.
