Prabowo Expresses Approval for Agrarian Reform Bill

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his approval for the Agrarian Reform Bill (RUU Reforma Agraria) during a plenary session at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Tuesday, September 22nd. Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who chaired the session, invited Nusron Wahid, the Minister of Agraria and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), to present the President's final opinion. "We invite the honorable Minister of Agraria and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency to present the final opinion on behalf of the President, we give you the time," said Dasco in the plenary session room on Tuesday (22/9). Nusron then began his speech by introducing himself as the President's representative. "On this occasion, please allow us, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, to convey the President's final opinion on the draft law concerning the regulation of agrarian reform," Nusron stated. He explained that the ratification of the Agrarian Reform Regulation Bill is in accordance with the constitutional mandate of Article 33 Paragraph 3 of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, this bill is also important in carrying out the mandate of MPR Decree No. 9 of 2001 concerning Agrarian Renewal and Natural Resource Management. Lastly, in his remarks, Nusron announced that Prabowo expressed his agreement to the Agrarian Reform Regulation Bill. "On behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, we express our agreement to the draft law concerning the regulation of agrarian reform to be ratified into law," he said. Nusron reappeared in public after being absent for two consecutive days from DPR RI meetings. His first appearance was on Monday (21/9) at the Legislation Body of the DPR RI to discuss the ratification of the Agrarian Reform Bill. Meanwhile, in previous meetings on Tuesday (15/9) and Wednesday (16/9), Nusron was absent and was represented by his deputy, Ossy Dermawan. The Agrarian Reform Bill aims to address long-standing issues concerning land use and resource management within the country, striving for more equitable distribution and sustainable development. Its enactment is expected to impact the resolution of land ownership and usage disputes in Indonesia, as well as lay the groundwork for economic development.
