Cambodia's Mango Industry Eyes Enhanced Processing and Market Access with China-FAO Collaboration

Cambodia's mango industry has seen rapid growth over the past decade, establishing it as a promising agricultural product for the nation. However, the next challenge is not simply to increase cultivation, but to create added value from every harvest. This was revealed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on July 27, 2026. As a priority product under Cambodia's "One Village, One Product" (OCOP) initiative, mangoes are opening up new opportunities for farmers through improved processing, stronger market linkages, and reduced post-harvest losses. Under the framework of South-South Cooperation between the FAO and China, experts from the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences have collaborated with the FAO, the General Directorate of Agriculture, and the PEARL project to meet with mango farmers, collectors, and processors in Kampong Speu, Battambang, and Udor Mean Chey provinces. This on-site inspection aims to identify practical solutions to improve processing, strengthen traceability systems, expand market opportunities, and increase the value of Cambodian mangoes. The understanding and data obtained will help define future activities under the OCOP initiative. Meanwhile, the PEARL project, supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), continues to assist smallholder farmers in increasing production, enhancing climate change resilience, and connecting to higher-value markets.
