Quang Tri Province: Two Suspects Charged in High School Graduation Exam Malpractice Allegations

In Vietnam's central Quang Tri Province, two suspects have been charged with abusing their positions and powers while on duty in connection with alleged malpractice during the 2026 high school graduation exam. The announcement was made by the Investigation Security Agency of the Quang Tri Provincial Police on the afternoon of July 19. The incident reportedly occurred at the examination site of Le Truc High School in Tuyen Hoa Commune. This action reaffirms the authorities' firm stance on ensuring the integrity of Vietnam's education system, particularly the fairness of the high school graduation exam. This nationwide examination is directly linked to students' further education and future prospects, leading to strict crackdowns on any malpractice. In the past, incidents such as cheating by exam supervisors and leaks of exam questions have been reported, prompting the Ministry of Education and Training to annually improve the examination process and strengthen preventive measures against misconduct. Under Vietnam's one-party system led by the Communist Party, the education sector is strongly controlled by the state. The examination system is positioned as a crucial pathway for social mobility and the cultivation of elites. Consequently, the fairness of examinations is directly linked to public expectations of social participation, and societal interest in malpractice is exceptionally high. The recent charges in Quang Tri Province can be seen as a response to these societal demands. Similar past cases include the indictment of six individuals, including a high school principal, for similar malpractice in Tuyen Quang Province in the north in 2022.
