Cambodian adventurer Tiv Dararith returned to Siem Reap on Friday, successfully completing an arduous 60,000-kilometre global cycling journey across 40 countries that raised more than US$260,000 for local children's hospitals, exceeding expectations. Mr. Dararith, who set off from Siem Reap on June 6, 2024, concluded his epic two-year multi-continental trek on July 3, 2026. The campaign generated US$260,243.57 in donations, which will be split between the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) and the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation to fund free medical treatment and healthcare for vulnerable youth. Prof. Nuon Chanpheaktra, Director of the Angkor Hospital for Children, expressed profound gratitude for Mr. Dararith’s monumental sacrifice. "In 2023, Mr. Dararith completed his first charity ride through six Asian nations, raising US$56,000," Prof. Chanpheaktra said. "To then conquer three continents and return with over US$260,000 for these children’s hospitals is truly extraordinary. His dedication will directly sustain healthcare services for our children." The director noted that over its 27 years of operation, AHC has treated approximately 3 million children. The hospital currently treats around 10,000 young patients per month, requiring an operational budget of US$500,000 monthly, or US$6 million annually. Reflecting on the challenges of his 25-month journey, Mr. Dararith acknowledged facing immense hardships on the road but emphasised that his devotion to Cambodian children kept him moving forward. "I am deeply grateful to the Cambodian people, international donors, and corporate sponsors who contributed to this cause," he said, hinting that a third charity cycling campaign is already on the horizon.
