South Cotabato: 7 workers awarded nearly P400,000 in back wages

KORONADAL CITY — Seven workers from a food service establishment in South Cotabato have received nearly P400,000 in unpaid wages and other benefits after the Department of Labor and Employment-12 (DOLE 12) facilitated the settlement of a labor case. According to the agency, the case stemmed from a labor inspection conducted in March 2026 at the establishment. Following the inspection, violations concerning wage payments and other labor conditions were identified, prompting DOLE 12 to intervene and mediate between the employer and employees. Ultimately, the establishment agreed to pay a total of P398,580.89 to the seven workers, compensating them for their back wages, benefits, and other entitlements. This settlement underscores the importance of protecting workers' rights and ensuring compliance with labor laws in the Philippines. DOLE reiterated its commitment to pursuing swift and fair resolutions for similar cases in the future. Cases of inadequate protection of workers' rights are not uncommon, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises in the Philippines. Improving labor conditions and legal compliance is a critical issue for attracting foreign investment.
