17 Veteran Families in Banteay Meanchey Receive Homes as Gifts from Samdech Techo Hun Sen

In northwestern Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province, 17 families of former soldiers who dedicated their efforts to national defense have received valuable housing as a gift from Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and former Prime Minister. This initiative serves as a testament to societal recognition and gratitude towards those who made significant contributions and sacrifices for the nation. A lottery ceremony for the houses was held on September 4, 2026, at the Techo Peace Center 2222 in Poichar village, Phnom Srok district. The event was presided over by HE Ouk Rathry, Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province and Chairman of the Provincial Branch of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, who conveyed words of encouragement to the veterans and their families. HE Ouk Rathry relayed messages of well-wishes from Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, emphasizing the leadership's consistent attention to the well-being and challenges faced by former soldiers. He lauded the sacrifices and hardships endured by veterans in safeguarding national peace and territorial integrity, stating that this housing provision is not merely a one-time aid but an expression of gratitude for their service to the nation. One of the veteran recipients tearfully expressed that this day marked the fulfillment of a long-held dream. He conveyed profound gratitude to Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the provincial leadership for their care and for organizing a transparent lottery process. He anticipates the new home will provide warmth and security for his family and serve as a place where his children can remember that their parents' sacrifices are acknowledged and valued by society and its leaders.
