Former Ayeyarwaddy Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win re-arrested by military junta

Ayeyarwaddy Times July 6 Sources close to Naypyidaw have revealed that U Tin Maung Win, the former Chief Minister of Ayeyarwaddy Region, has been arrested by the military junta's interim government. U Tin Maung Win, the former Chief Minister under the coup regime, was accused of abusing his authority during his tenure, engaging in corruption amounting to billions of kyats, and receiving benefits and bribes from some businessmen. Furthermore, it was learned that he was summoned for questioning and detained due to complaints that he was providing protection behind the scenes for illegal businesses and trade activities that occurred within Ayeyarwaddy Region. It is also reported that U Tin Maung Win had hidden his son, Navy Captain Ye Tun Win, who had fled from the Kyaukphyu Naval Base in Rakhine State, on his own property. Additionally, it was revealed that due to billions of kyats in corruption during his tenure as Ayeyarwaddy Chief Minister, as well as his involvement in Rakhine cargo transportation, one of the current Ayeyarwaddy Region government ministers filed a complaint with the interim government's Vice President U Nyo Saw, leading to his summoning for questioning. An associate close to the former Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win confirmed to Ayeyarwaddy Times, stating, "He is being arrested and interrogated with solid evidence of abuse of power, corruption, and involvement in illegal trade." However, the military has not yet made any official announcement regarding this incident. U Tin Maung Win was appointed as the Chairman of the Ayeyarwaddy Region Administrative Council and Chief Minister after the military coup. He was later removed from the Chief Minister position and reassigned during the previous period, and is now facing action for corruption. The interim government's military has dispatched a large number of troops to the front lines to prevent territorial loss in Ayeyarwaddy Region and is preparing defensive measures, but the Arakan Army (AA) has announced that they are losing their camps along the Ayeyarwaddy-Rakhine border. Furthermore, it has been learned from the Pathein Special News Unit that due to the urgent need to secure and supply provisions for the front lines, goods are completely unavailable and scarce at the welfare shops in the Southwest Military Command (Nataka) in the rear, making the livelihoods of military families extremely difficult. Sources close to the front lines say that due to the daily casualties of a large number of soldiers, including officers, on the Ayeyarwaddy front, the military's organizational structure is in disarray, and the morale of the troops has hit rock bottom. It is also understood that within the units under Nataka, there are internal conflicts and dissatisfaction among officers, ranging from colonels who are granted parliamentary attendance (or office work) to officers fighting on the front lines and those assigned to various regions, due to perceived unfair treatment and discrimination.
