14 Buddhist monasteries ordered to leave Yadanabon New City project area

Work on the project, located near the military stronghold of Pyin Oo Lwin, has accelerated since the beginning of this year. The Yadanabon New City Development Committee (YCDC), which oversees the implementation of the Yadanabon New City project, has ordered 14 Buddhist monasteries to vacate the project area. These monasteries are said to occupy a portion of the land within the project area. According to temple officials, the YCDC has notified the monasteries of the deadline for vacating and has stated that forceful eviction will be carried out if they do not comply. The temples have expressed dissatisfaction, claiming they have not received adequate explanation regarding their relocation and compensation after vacating. The Yadanabon New City project is a large-scale development initiative aimed at promoting Myanmar's economic development. However, issues concerning the eviction of monasteries and residents have emerged during its progress, creating tension within the local community.
